Culinary Antiques

Since we love to cook we notice the beautiful antique items used in kitchens. Whether for cooking in or serving from they always make the meal more interesting and beautiful visually. We are especially fond of the early cream or pearl ware from the 18th century. These pieces are all authentic antiques and not reproductions that can be ordered from any catalogues.

The white French stoneware platters and bowls from France are large and heavy duty with beautiful profiles. We especially love the long narrow fish platters and can't resist buying them. These were all meant to be used and enjoyed for generations.

French and English corkscrews, know as "Tire-Bouchon" in France. Wonderful shapes and many sizes. All are excellent in useable condition, from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The glass domes come in all sizes and weights it seems and look glorious covering fresh made white cheeses or a favorite freshly baked dessert. Play with these in decorative ways too especially with small precious carved or untouchable items.

Ebony handled knives of all sizes are treasured here at The Marston House. Antique bone and horn carving sets and knives are too.

We enjoy using old cutting boards in our kitchen and know you will too. The shapes and sizes, like humans, are never the same. Normally hand made for someone, for some use . . . forever. We do our best to continue this tradition of passing them on.

Imagine that tea pots and coffee pots have survived generations. These French cream ware pieces from late 18th c are beautiful and have always been used and treasured.

The same is true of the early English canisters. We always look for the large ones trying to imagine how much "tapioca" can one family store to eat. We eat lots of rice so can we understand this grand size.
