Decorative Antiques
We are certain to cross the line here and include "antique utility items" as "decorative". We love buying, building and displaying antique items as a "collection". A collection of small mirrors has so much more of an impact than one or two. The same is true with most everything. So, under this category you will often find collections of items that are similar in design and function that we display together for the impact and interest they have as a larger unit.
Candle Sticks and Early Lighting An assortment of antique candle sticks using old "tin hog scrapers" and tin lanterns mixed with silver plated sticks and a few other pieces of metals all together make an interesting display especially when the candles are lit.
Priced separately, contact us for prices and specifics.
Mocha Ware We saw this collection in the kitchen of an English Antique dealer and bugged him for years to sell it us. He finally did. Now no one wants or can afford the collection so we have priced them separately. These are from the English pubs mid to late 1800's so have seen a good bit of use⦠Imagine ordering a "pint" today and being served your beer in one of these beautiful mugs or pitchers. They are copied now but nothing is like these originals.
White Stoneware, Salt Glaze Metal Topped Pitchers and Tea Pots I collected these white pitchers and tea pots years ago here in Maine, thinking the first one I found was a "make do" (repaired with metal). I realized that they were made this way with metal or pewter lids. None are marked where they were made so I don't honestly know, or care, if they are American or not.
Wooden Carved Heads They are early French religious figures, perhaps from the churches during the religious wars thru the 18th century. Each has thin painted plaster, on their faces and or carved hair. Their glass eyes seem to follow you.
Wallpaper Bridal Boxes These were found over the past couple of years in southern France. They are covered handmade wooden boxes hinged with arched tops then covered with period wallpaper. These were made for or by the bride "to be" in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Jaspe from southwestern France is a favorite of ours. The "stove pipe" shape of these early pitchers glazed inside and out are wonderful to use in the kitchen filled with any thing from water to flowers. The bottoms are never glazed. the designs are varied. The word "jaspe" describes the lively decorations to the surface of the red clay. Prices range depending on size and condition.
Antique Mirrors Who doesn't want a beautiful antique mirror (or more) in their home? We find many beautiful antique mirrors, but the French value them also. When we find a beautiful 19th c bistro or 18th c mirror where the silver or mercury on the glass is getting foggy or mystical we have difficulty passing on them. Here are a few of our favorites.
