New Home - Bremen, Maine
The property in Bremen that my client purchased for their new home was the "left over" piece after this large parcel on Bisque Pond was subdivided in 1973.
All the other pieces in the subdivision were large enough to allow for an easy compliance with existing lot restrictions. Those restrictions focused on setbacks from the pond and neighbors and being able to provide a sewage disposal system the location of which demanded conformance clearances to property lines, the pond and the proposal residence.
After all the restrictions were calculated into the size and shape of this site, the allowable building foot print appeared to be inadequate, until my client had the courage to pursue the possibility of constructing a home that would satisfy the needs of their family.
On the site drawing shown here, the allowable building envelope is illustrated and the actual building foot print is delineated in black. We were able to push the building to the limits of the envelope and create a three story, three bedroom and bath home that respects its location in the forest and on the water. The transparency of the building façade creates a wonderful connection between the interior of the house and the site on which it is located. This connection was the core concept for the design of the home.
